Please join us as we welcome Claes Westring  with Jacobs discussing Engineers Without Borders: Recent Projects.

His presentation will highlight the projects that the Engineers Without Borders Florida Professional Chapter (EWB-FL) and University of South Florida Student Chapter (EWB-USF) are currently involved with as well as their local project involvement. EWB-FL currently has a water supply project in the communities of Xoquic and San Bartolo, Guatemala. The current water system runs dry during their 6-months of dry season forcing the community to ration water and the current system only serves approximately half of the community. The scope of the Guatemala water supply project is to supplement their existing system with a new water supply well, expand the system to 400 more people, install a chlorination system, and repair their existing storage tank. EWB-USF has two student led international projects: a latrines project in Bolivia and a rain catchment water supply project in the Dominican Republic. The Bolivia latrines project aims to provide proper sanitation facilities to the rural community of Unificada Teneria y Manzanani. The Dominican Republic project aims to install household rain catchment systems to help supplement water needs in the community of Miramar but is also exploring other water supply alternatives.

Claes Westring, P.E. works for Jacobs Engineering as a wastewater engineer and is the chapter president of EWB-FL. He also serves as a professional mentor for the EWB-USF chapter. In addition, the following students from the EWB-USF chapter will be presenting: Dana Hunter who is a sophomore Environmental Engineering major, Gabriel Jacomi who is a sophomore Mechanical Engineering major, Begum Unal who is a sophomore Mechanical Engineering major and professional development lead, Jacob Marchland who is a Civil Engineering senior and current EWB-USF chapter president, and Ally Kenney who is an Environment Engineering masters student and a past EWB-USF chapter president.
